The ETC is an advanced training course delivered over 2.5 days, designed to teach healthcare professionals the skills and strategies necessary for optimising acute in hospital care of severely injured trauma patients in a multidisciplinary team environment. 

What is the ETC?

Key Features of the ETC:

  • Focus on teamwork, teaching candidates how to effectively take on the roles of team leader and team member. 

  • MDT candidates and faculty.

  • Realistic scenarios where candidates are hands-on in an immersive environment, managing critical situations. 

  • Internationally standardised and structured curriculum based on the ABCDE approach. 

  • ​Successful completion of the ETC provides candidates with an internationally recognised certificate

In addition to the face to face course, candidates are required to read the online ETC manual in preparation for their course. 

Course Structure

The ETC typically runs over 2.5 days and includes:

  • Practical workshops to develop and refine hands-on skills.

  • High-fidelity simulation workshops to support non technical skills and teamwork development.

  • Feedback and debrief sessions to reinforce learning.

In addition to the face to face course, candidates are required to read the online ETC manual in preparation for their course. 

Experienced faculty

All our faculty are senior clinical staff from multi disciplinary specialities. With a named mentor throughout the course, you will be well supported. 

Course Dinner

Included in your course fee is a course meal attended by candidates and faculty, providing an opportunity to relax together as a team.

Sim/Scenario

Based on small group working, 85% of our course is taught in Sim/scenario workshops, each focusing on specific areas related to trauma, and growing in complexity as the course progresses. 

Mentors

Throughout the course you will be supported by a personal mentor. They will meet with you each day, and are there to support you. 

Assessment

Through a combination of continuous assessment throughout the course and summative assessment on the final day you will be assessed on technical skills and team leadership. There is no written exam.

ETC Manual

In preparation for your course, and for future reference, you are required to read the online course manual.

ETC teaches candidates in small groups to ensure everyone can maximise their learning potential. Over 2.5 days candidates will cover multiple scenarios including:

  • Abdominal trauma

  • Airway management 

  • Head injury

  • Paediatric trauma

  • Shock

  • Spinal Injury

  • Thoracic trauma

Technical skills are taught alongside non-technical skills to support your development as an effective member or leader of the trauma team. 

Once successfully completed, you will be registered as an ETC Provider for 5 years following your course.

NB: The ETC will cover skills relevant to all senior clinical staff within the trauma team. Successful completion of the course does not licence you to undertake such skills and you must practice within your scope of professional conduct within your clinical setting
